    Easter Reflections on Tom Delay

In recent days, criticism has unfairly rained down on House majority leader Tom Delay for supposedly comparing himself to Jesus. As Delay put it in his own defense, "people hate the messenger. That's why they killed Christ."

On this Easter Sunday, it is worth noting that the similarities between Jesus and Tom Delay are striking:

UPDATE: A PDF version is available here. For more on Tom Delay, see "The American Taliban" and "The Avenging Angel."

Nice, Jon. Any chance you could email that as an attachment? I'll have some shirts made, split it with ya. (just kidding, I have a fundraiser for local Dem Party, it would make a great prize) Be well. I'll give you my private email if you respond.

Hey, this is a disgrace to all pest control technicians around the world. My father has worked in pest control since the age of 17 and he's got more integrity in his pinky than DeLay has in his entire body.

Damn shame William Burroughs isn't alive anymore. Imagine what he would make of all this.

    That's awesome!

Beautiful. Now get it to mainstream.

Posted by Sjames at March 28, 2005 06:49 AM

    Also:
Jesus: Suffer the little children to come unto me.
Delay: Let the brats suffer as long as I get a tax cut.

Old "Dioxin-for-brains" Delay has done it again. Just when I think he has hit the wall with hypocrisy and cynicism, he tops himself. This time he, the Bush Brothers and old "Cat-killer" Frist have really done it. They have unleashed the Crazies. The Crazies are not as easily controlled as the Newsmedia and they will turn on you like a psychotic bulldog.

    Jesus: died for his father.
Tom: pulled the plug on his father.

I saw that Mel Gibson fax when someone linked to the image on the Schiavo site and pointed out Mel used the fax machine of "Dragon's Fish Restaurant" in LA to send it. So deeply moved by Terri's plight was he that he could bear to dispatch his personal assistant to the bar while, I assume, he enjoyed a fine cigar and talked up a project with Miramax.

    Thanks for the PDF.

any chance that DeLay would agree to be cruxified to really nail the comparison?

Posted by wisedup at March 28, 2005 09:28 PM

I shudder at the thought of some kind of cult forming around Tom DeLay. I picture one of those crazy, low-budget Satanist movies from the seventies. Yikes.

Posted by Java Black at March 28, 2005 09:40 PM

Burroughs would have said, just as he did while alive that all politicians are "worthless, lying bastards without a single good intention among them."

Posted by Beelzebubba at March 29, 2005 05:34 AM

    This was just damn brilliant!

Posted by Pam at March 29, 2005 10:34 PM

I learned today on NPR that DeLay, before he found Christ, was really quite a boozer indeed. The Republican Party is apparently dominated by two Texans who each spent too many years there marinating their brains in alcohol.

Posted by bob h at March 31, 2005 09:55 PM

    Nicely done!!!

You're all a bunch of losers to compare Jesus to ANY mortal! Lay off it!

Posted by Anita at April 5, 2005 06:16 PM

Anita, If Christ wasn't mortal, How could he have died for your sins?

Posted by Jack at April 7, 2005 07:02 PM

    Hey all:

    Tom is my hero.
He is a true believer in Jesus Christ, my lord and savior.

    Death to all you liberals.

    Tom Delay

1)Will he resign under pressure??? Not likely.
2)Is he an embarrassment to the radical right?? Yes.
3)Assuming Delay does not step down, would a long drawn out scandal weaken the strangle hold the extream right has on the reigns of power in America? Yes.
4)Has Tom Delay become a liability to the win at any cost wing of the radical right? Probably.
5)If Tom Delay were to be assassinated by some wack-job-nut-case would it benefit Democrats? NO. Absolutely not.
6)Would it benefit the radical right if Tom Delay were to be assassinated by some wack-job-nut-case (particularly if the guy could be framed up as a “Liberal wack job)? Almost certainly. Major embarrassment gone along with one man who knows too much and could otherwise be under considerable pressure to talk.
7)Would radical right wing extreamists sink to such a level??? I hope not... but there is reason enough to belive they might.

Should Delay be taken into protective custody. Probably... although the Hague may be the only safe place to keep him.
