Three Years Later: Perrspectives on Iraq

On this the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, I'm adding to the endless list of retrospectives. The Perrspectives Iraq Archive includes all of this site's articles, features and pieces on the planning, politics and policies surrounding the American conflict in Iraq. Among the featured pieces:

    • "What is to Be Done: A 10-Point Plan for Iraq." Back in August, the debate over the American debacle in Iraq sounds more and more like the Fram oil filter ads from the 1970's. In those spots, a hard-nosed mechanic tells consumers, "you can pay me now or pay me later." The inevitable result of the current political dialogue over Iraq will be the "Fram choice" for Americans: the United States can lose now or lose later. Last August, I offered an alternative path forward.
    • "The Global War on Error." Almost from the moment the Twin Towers fell, President Bush in his "Global War on Terror" has mischaracterized the enemy we face and failed to grasp the nature of the conflict we must fight and win. Last August, Perrspectives looked at the dangers of worldwide war against an abstraction.
    • "Roberts' Iraq Stonewall Crumbles." Kansas Senator Pat Roberts, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has blocked the "Phase II" investigation into the misuses of pre-war intelligence, stating "'Was there any political manipulation or pressure?' Answer: 'No.'" Unfortunately for Roberts, a mountain of evidence suggests otherwise.
    • "The Myth of the Bush Doctrine". The Bush Doctrine has come to have three tenets - no safe havens for terrorists, preemption and democracy expansion. Unfortunately, what the Bush Doctrine has become in the popular imagination is not what how it started life, and certainly not anything that its neoconservative champions would recognize as their own.
    • "Bush's Iraq Report Card." Last June, President Bush delivered a much awaited speech on Iraq to an audience of soldiers assembled at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. As theater, the President's was a confident rhetorical performance. But if the intent was to rebuild American support for the Iraq war by showing accountability for the missteps to date, providing a plan for success and asking for needed sacrifices, George W. Bush failed miserably.
    • "The Iraq Intelligence and WMD Resource Center." This set of resources contains all of the key articles, commission reports and memos for regarding WMD and the Iraq pre-war intelligence. From the Iraq Survey Group and the Senate Intelligence Committee reports to the Silberman-Robb commission report and the Downing Street memos, it's all there.
    • "The Abu Ghraib and Torture Scandal Resource Center." This set of resources contains all of the key articles, reports, memos and other essential documents regarding Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay and the Bush administration policies on torture.
