Hillary - I'm Like Rocky; Stallone - I Like McCain

In Philadelphia on Tuesday, Hillary Clinton once again showed the dangers of confusing fact and fiction. Still weathering the criticism for a fictionalized account of her excellent Bosnia adventure in 1996, Clinton compared herself to Philly's screen boxing legend Rocky Balboa. Sadly, Balboa's alter ego Sylvester Stallone already endorsed John McCain.

You can't blame her for trying. Speaking to a gathering of the Pennsylvania AFL CIO, Hillary Clinton cast herself as the underdog Rocky going the distance:

"Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up."

Unfortunately, Hillary Clinton and Rocky portrayer Sylvester Stallone have something else in common: they've both said nice things about Republican John McCain.

During the height of his primary competition with Mike Huckabee back in January, John McCain needed an aging, macho celebrity counterweight to the former Arkansas governor's own action hero, Texas Ranger Chuck Norris. McCain found him in Stallone, who favorably compared the real life Vietnam POW to his own role in the upcoming Rambo remake:

"I like McCain a lot. Things may change along the way, but there's something about matching the character with the script, and right now the script is being written and reality is pretty brutal and hard edge and like a rough action film, you need somebody who's been in that to deal with it."

Of course, the Rocky/Stallone analogy involves other pitfalls for Hillary Clinton, as well. Last year, the 60 year-old Stallone was charged with importing steroids and other performance enhancing drugs into Australia. (He claimed he was "prescribed the drug to give his aging body a boost and to look good while filming his latest Rambo movie in Asia.") He ultimately paid a fine of $2,500.

Ironically, Hillary Clinton seems to have overlooked the ending of the first Rocky film, in which the hero is defeated in Philadelphia by the popular African-American champion, Apollo Creed. Unlike Rocky, Hillary Clinton can rest assured she will get no rematch against Barack Obama.
